‘Annie Electric’ – This film is a quite surrealist film that has connections with science. The film is animated and edited after the main images were shot. The character here is quite dominant and is the focus of the film, along with all the colours and objects that are involved it’s almost as if the experimental artist is suggesting that science is involved with everything in everyday life or that the character is being manipulated by science.

‘Lucidity’ – A short surrealist film is arranged from a number of still photographs. It’s another non narrative film which I think is a powerful way of trying to convey an idea, feeling or a message.
The subject was photographed at various points through her walk in a deserted graveyard setting, which is very suggestive of death.
There are many possible feelings you get from this film; a lot of it is quite emotional, the images draw the viewers towards a feeling of loss, as if the character has lost a loved one. The subtle background music also plays a role in creating emotion which I think is quite effective and it could be useful in my work. The Music of my work could help steer the viewer into a different world almost, the most effective film could involve music to build tension or to cause some sort of reaction on the viewer.

Richard Billingham, although mainly a photographer, has inspired me to a film in a domestic setting.
Billingham produced a very amateur insight into the behaviour within a domestic environment. I think that this film is created in the style of reality television show, although it relates to unusual behaviour, i.e. the relationship between Billingham’s dad being the alcoholic male and the how the rest of the family feel about him.
The film consists of lots of cropped, distorted images, shaking of the camera, which represents how a domestic setting is portrayed.
Showing and portraying insights of a personal, home environment is inspiring, within my own film, I could share something that is unusual and interesting as oppose to just looking visually exciting although this is still important. My film must represent something to do with me or that shows how I feel about something.
